A review of the Treatment Options for Huntington's DiseaseRaphael M Bonelli, Peter Hofmann At the present time the only treatment options available in HD are for the symptoms of HD. There are several substances available today for the treatment of chorea and based on data from open-label studies or even case reports, the authors of the attached article recommend riluzole and olanzapine for the treatment of chorea caused by HD. They also recommend SSRIs and mirtazapine for the treatment of depression, and atypical antipsychotic drugs for HD psychosis and behavioral problems. The authors recommend that psychotherapy, physiotherapy, and speech therapy be part of the treatment program where appropriate.
