Therapeutic Trials in Progress
CARE-HD (Coenzyme Q10 and Remacemide Evaluation
in HD) is a multi-center clinical trial under the direction
of Karl Kieburtz, M.D. at the University of Rochester,
and Walter Koroshetz, M.D. at Massachusetts General
Hospital. This study is evaluating the naturally occurring substance
CoQ10 and the drug Remacemide as
potential therapies to slow or stop the progression of
HD. The trial was fully enrolled in record time and is
now one third of the way through completion. All 347
subjects will be followed for 2 1/2 years, with results of
the trial expected in 2001.
Other therapeutic trials are under development.
