Retreat - Oct. 7-9Survivor: Bass LakeThe HD BrainStormers will once again hold the S.T.A.R. Retreat on Oct. 7, 8, and 9, 2005, at The Pines Resort at Bass Lake, California (reserve your chalet by Sept. 6). The Retreat is for young adults At Risk for Huntington’s Disease, age 18 to 40 or so, non-symptomatic, tested or untested or chosen not to test or tested negative. Each At Risk person may bring his or her spouse or life partner, if desired. The Retreat is an opportunity for those At Risk to get away from their lives for a few days to share with At Risk peers their feelings and challenges, participating in discussion/support groups and seminars (presented by Genetics Counselors and others) focused on their concerns and fears while living with their HD status. Talk about Birthdays, Normal, all that other stuff no one except a peer can truly understand... and have fun while being a Survivor! For more information, please contact Melora Rini or Noel Potts at star_retreat@yahoo.com or at (714) 963-0525. The Hereditary Disease Foundation is Platinum Title Sponsor for the Retreat (thanks to Dr. Nancy Wexler and Dr. Alice Wexler, for helping us not only in Mapping Fate but learning to Survive HD!). Angel Sponsors include 5 Star Homes (Michael P. Stewart), and Mary Ellen Bradford. Silver Sponsors include The Greater Los Angeles Chapter and the Northern California Chapter of the Huntington’s Disease Society of America, and Vivian Pagani-Estrada of PartyLite. Some scholarships may be available, so check with Melora, your local California Caregiver Resource Center, or your HDSA Chapter. The HD BrainStormers are still looking for sponsors and donations. Your support would help make this event a great success! All donors and sponsors will be recognized at the event and in publicity. Help us to give some time away to young adults for Sharing Time At Risk and knowing they are not alone in this disease.
